Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka’s only remaining rainforest is the Sinharaja Forest Reserve, 21 km by 4km, which although it is a World Heritage Site is still being logged and illegally mined for gems; the core area of three types of rainforest, lowland, montane and wet, is surrounded by a buffer zone in which various kinds of economic activity, legal and illegal are carried out. The vegetation of the lowland and lower hill forests of Sri Lanka is the most biodiverse in all South Asia.
